As it turns out, the volunteer job market is tougher than the actual job market. After several weeks of back and forth with Planned Parenthood, I still have no definite answer or result. I have heard a lot of controversial news about Planned Parenthood over the years, and I wanted the opportunity to see what it was actually like from the inside. Also, a couple of my friends wanted to help me out, but there is just no information being transferred... Its just frustrating that wanting to help for free is way harder than getting paid to work. I think the only thing that would delay this whole process more is my new-found ability to procrastinate.

Sadly, I completely agree with the statement that volunteering seems to be harder than acquiring an actual job. One of the places that I have been trying to volunteer for I sent an email only to get a call that told me to go to the website and fill out a volunteer form and they would get back to me later… still no reply. It’s just a never ending cycle of chasing my tail.
ReplyDeleteNow the job market I have literally walked into the organization asked if they had any positions available got an interview and was hired in a matter of a few hours. You would figure that since you are offering your time willingly that it would the other way around
Some places are really hard to get into like you are saying but some places are just happy to get the help. If you are not set on Planned Parenthood, the place that I volunteer at is always looking for help. I volunteer at Almost Home Humane Society. It is very rewarding to see a family fall inlove with an animal and to see one finally go home.
ReplyDeleteYou would think that if you are offering your time for free they would be willing to take you but I guess some places are just stubborn that way. Sorry about your luck. I hope something comes along soon for you.
